Called “Passapaïs” (pronounced “Passopaïs”), which means “Passe-Pays” in Occitan, the Haut-Languedoc greenway crosses the watershed line between Courniou-les-Grottes (Hérault) and Labastide-Rouairoux ( Tarn), at the Col de la Fenille, its highest point.
It is a passage from the department of Tarn to that of Hérault, from an Atlantic climate to a Mediterranean climate, in the heart of the Occitanie region between Montpellier and Toulouse. It is built on the old Mazamet/Bédarieux railway line.
Over approximately 75 kilometres, it offers a protected area for cycling, jogging, hiking , horseback riding or accompanied by a pack donkey.
Note: The stabilized surface (mainly compacted sand) does not allow the road bike to ride on the Greenway.
It is part of the Véloroute V84 nicknamed "vélooccitanie" , a cycle route of around 200 km , which connects the Canal du Midi (Seuil de Naurouze, south of Toulouse) to Béziers (Hérault).
